"No, are you crazy?!  We’re a team, and I’m gonna help you!"

"Do you think I’m kidding?" she asked when he sniff-laughed, raising her eyebrwos a little more, placing her hands on her hips.  This wasn’t the time or place for this conversation, she thought.  "Please just don’t give him a hard time, okay?" she asked, a little gentler than earlier.

The vet arrived a few minutes later, standing in the doorway with that half grin on his face.  He seemed like a pretty happy guy.  ”The room’s all ready, if you’ll follow me,” he informed, waiting for the duo.

Rapunzel glanced at Tex, half expecting him to hop down by himself, though that’d definitely injure his leg even more.

As a general rule, Texas liked to assert his independence a lot when he was around Rapunzel. He’d lived and traveled alone since before he was in double digits and it was a pretty abrupt change when they’d become partners. So he took to reminding her of it a lot. Except now, he had no choice but to depend on her. It sucked.

With yet another heavy sigh, he limped closer to her so she could pick him up, hoping she wouldn’t gloat about this in the future. He himself would never live it down.

Sometimes it frustrated her, his whole thing on independence.  She understood, of course, but sometimes she thought that she’d be a big help.  But of course, they were both stubborn as hell, so there was that.  Giving him a half grin when he limped closer to her, she picked him up off the table.  ”Now are you gonna be difficult and limp the entire way?” she asked, looking down to him, hoping he’d just let her carry him to the next room.

The vet looked almost amused, chuckling a little, and Rapunzel assumed it was because she was asking Tex, in his dog form, questions.  And also because she half understood his responses.

Ross sighed, pouting a little.  ”Fine.  I’ll read in my mind.  Only for you.”

Still looking at her, he closed the book and set it on the floor, resting his head into the pillow.  ”You sure?  I don’t mind, it’s getting kinda late anyway.”

"Hey, if you wanna stop readin’ then stop readin’. Either way, I’m sleepin’," she yawned, stretching against him in a very cat-like way and nuzzling into his side. She was always more cuddly when she was tired.

He laughed quietly, turning so that he could hug her as he wrapped his arm around her, nuzzling into her hair a little.  ”Yeah, yeah.  Sleep away.”

With him, she felt peaceful. Safe, even. And that was a big deal for her, because she hadn’t felt really safe since… well, she never had. Not with her father still around. But with Ross, she did, and she curled closer to him, her arm thrown across his waist, finding his other arm and linking her pinky around his thumb.

Smiling when she draped her arm over his waist, and a little more when their fingers linked, he sighed contently.  He knew what this meant to her, and his his free hand he rubbed her back a little, soothingly.  ”You’re cute when you cuddle,” he noted quietly, holding her a little tighter.

For a moment, Texas just looked at her. But then he smiled ever so slightly, leaning in and pressing her bottom lip between both of his. “There,” he murmured against her mouth without pulling away properly. “All better.”

She kicked her own jeans off, letting them fall to the floor as his leg tightened around hers, rocking her hips on his again, further pressing herself into him, chuckling when he did, closing her eyes again as his lips graced her jaw.  ”Wouldn’t want that,” she murmured, letting her fingers release his hair so she could rest his hand on his chest.  She let her lips wander to his ear, “Hm, one more layer,” she whispered.

For some reason, he was really amused right now. She made him laugh. Sure, he was lustful too - very - but he laughed again at not much. His laugh turned into a whine as she pushed her hips against his again, screwing his eyes shut and leaning back into the pillow with a sigh. Feeling her lips at his ear, breath tickling his skin, he smiled a little at her words. “Hmm. That’s one too many. We should fix that.” He tilted his head so he could reach her neck again, kissing along and nipping at her pulse.

Again, she smiled victoriously at the sound of his whine, following him when he leaned into the pillows.  ”Let’s,” she agreed, biting down on her lip when he kissed her neck, letting out a much louder groan now when he nipped her.  But that didn’t stop her from reaching down to his underwear, tugging at the ends a bit, teasingly.

It satisfied her knowing that with a few simple rocks of her hips she could get that sort of reaction out of him, and she smiled victoriously into the kiss, letting out a few more deep and content breaths.  She pulled down his jeans, and hers as well, and let out another light moan when he kissed her chin and her ears, and another one when their lips came in contact again.  ”Mm, maybe.  Not in public though.”

Once his jeans were off, he kicked them away carelessly, his leg tightening around hers again with his hand stroking from her shoulder, down her side, to her thigh and back up again, barely noticing he was doing it. He relished in the feel of skin on skin, his own rough and weather skin contrasting with the softness of hers. At her words, he couldn’t help another chuckle. She did that to him a lot. “No,” he agreed, pressing his mouth to her jaw this time. “Not in public. I’d get jealous.”

Rapunzel looked over to the vet, nodding her head. “If you think that’s a better option, then yes, I think that’d be the better choice,” she replied, biting down on her lip, giving Tex another quick glare.

"Alright, give me a quick second, I’ll see if the room’s available," he said with a light grin, despite Tex’s fit.  Within seconds, he was gone, and Rapunzel faced Texas, eyebrows raised.

"You owe him an apology."

Texas stood to watch the vet leave, letting out a satisfied huff once he was gone and turning to Rapunzel. He probably should have cowered a little, or at least looked slightly sheepish. But he just narrowed his eyes challengingly.

Her words made him sniff a sort of laugh, shaking his head in amusement. ‘You owe me an apology’ he thought petulantly, turning away from her to watch the door, keeping an eye for when the vet came back. His expression was focused, but his tail swayed a little, more calm than before.

Ross sighed, pouting a little.  ”Fine.  I’ll read in my mind.  Only for you.”

"Yeah, you better," she warned half-heartedly, too sleepy to ‘terrify’ him with threats right now. "Either that or read something good.” Rolling over to face him, Tessa leaned her head against his shoulder.

He pressed his lips together as he began reading silently, pausing for a moment to glance over at her.  ”I take offence to that,” he noted, grinning down to her.  ”If you’re so tired, how about I just put the book away for the night?”

She hadn’t meant to make him stop reading altogether and she felt kind of bad for that - she pulled away from him, resting on the pillow instead. “Carry on,” she mumbled, closing her eyes and reclining further into the pillow.

Still looking at her, he closed the book and set it on the floor, resting his head into the pillow.  ”You sure?  I don’t mind, it’s getting kinda late anyway.”

"No, are you crazy?!  We’re a team, and I’m gonna help you!"

Rapunzel gasped a little when he snarled, throwing a glare at him, shaking her head as if she were advising him not to.  ”No,” she scolded, shaking her head a little more now, mouthing the words ‘He isn’t going to hurt you.’

The vet pulled back when he snarled, fearing he may have done something wrong, holding his hands up lightly.  ”Hey, hey,” he said in a calming tone, “I won’t hurt you.  I just need to check out your leg,” he added, as if he was speaking to a child.  ”Would an X-Ray be more suitable?” he repeated.

Texas barely spared Rapunzel a glance, too caught up in what felt like a very real threat to him. The problem was twofold - first of all, he wasn’t human. As a human, he relied on his physicality - his weapons some, but mainly his strength. As a dog, although he was a very powerful dog, he didn’t have the same strength or heigh he did as a human. And secondly, he had a broken leg. It made him twice as vulnerable, and that just didn’t sit well with him, no matter how he looked at it.

As the vet explained himself, Tex calmed down a little. It had been a knee-jerk reaction, and he calmed down pretty quickly, going back to normal (if a bit on edge). When the man started asking questions, Tex huffed impatiently, turning to look at Rapunzel for an answer.

Rapunzel looked over to the vet, nodding her head. “If you think that’s a better option, then yes, I think that’d be the better choice,” she replied, biting down on her lip, giving Tex another quick glare.

Another sigh of contentment escaped her when he brought his hand to the back of her neck, eyes closing as their lips connected.  She let out a light moan when his teeth caught her lip, and another one when he kissed her again, rocking her hips on his.  Just because.  As he pulled back, her eyes were full of fire, and she smirked back at him, reaching down to help pull off her jeans before going to unzip his fly.

As she rocked her hips against his, he swore under his breath, leg hitching tighter around both of hers. It loosened again as her hands went to his fly, and he found himself too preoccupied with kissing her to help, pressing her lower lip between his once, twice, three times, before moving away to press lingering kisses against her chin and ears. And then he returned to her lips, hand moving to cup her cheek. “I think I like this better,” he murmured with a small nod. “You should not wear clothes all the time.”
